Where do you obtain your books?
We obtain nearly all of our books from publishers. Authors go to the publishing houses to sign copies of their books either before or very soon after publication. Additionally, we have arrangements with a number of other established internet booksellers, both in the UK and overseas. We also contact authors and illustrators directly if we can't source our books anywhere else. Asking questions about exactly where we obtained a certain book/s from will not be answered - we are under no obligation to tell you. We have no secrets and we are an honest company - but there's nothing for us to gain if we do.
Where do you keep your books?
Inside a bookstore under a controlled climate. No pets, smoke or light come into this room which stops any damage from occuring. Each book is inspected before being stored on our bookshelves.
Can you explain your book grading system?
Very Fine - Our highest grade. New, unread. No noticable faults. Bright dustcover. No ownership markings. Books may be signed, doodled and inscribed by the author and illustrator.
Fine - New, but on closer inspection may have a minor ding or two, to either the book or the dustcover. Bumps are acceptable, as is shelf rubbing to dustcovers. Older books may have been carefully read, but if this is the case it will be mentioned.
Near Fine - The book or dustcover has a slightly more obvious fault, which will be mentioned in the description. Otherwise the book is in fine condition.
Very Good - Physically intact and reasonably unmarred. May have ownership markings, price clipped dustcover, remainder markings. Older books may be foxed (spotting to pages caused by chemical reaction of some types of paper with the air). Gilt may be worn.
Good - Not Really! A good book has some serious problems. Hinges may be cracked, dust jackets could be torn (without loss), the binding may be rolled or shaken. Ex-library books will not be graded higher than good. Essentially, a reading copy, unless it is a particularly scarce title.
Poor - A poor book has loss and/or is losing its integrity.
How come some books get 'wavy' pages?
Every piece of paper has a grain direction. Binderies prefer to use long grain paper as opposed to short grain. If humidity is increased that is why pages appear wavy. Remember that publishers do not have collectors in mind when designing a book. The average hardback only costs £1!

Why are some of your brand new books more than cover price?
We source our books in many different ways (mentioned above). Books could cost us more due to e.g. shipping. We also take into consideration when pricing books things like rarity and demand. Very often we pay authors and illustrators a fee so this is taken into consideration. Remember we are a business!
How do I become a first edition bookseller and have my own website?

Will my books go up in value?
Wow it would be amazing if we knew. We would have bought every Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone in sight! All we can say is collect the books you like to read and they will give you years and years of pleasure! If you are book collecting in the short-term then it is a risky business but fun - always do research before you buy.
Will you sell my book/s?
Unfortunately as we have to meticulously inspect every book in stock we don't sell on behalf of other 3rd party sellers. The best places to sell your books are Ebay, Amazon, Biblio or Abebooks.

Will you value my book/s?
It's really difficult to value a book without inspecting it on site. We recommend you surf the internet for valuation websites as we are primarily an internet bookshop.
